Things to do in Cozumel?

My husband and I are taking our first cruise vacation in January and one of the ports is Cozumel. We are looking for something to do when we are in port and don’t want to book through the excursions on the cruise line as they seem to be a more expensive option to planning on our own. Any suggestions?
